Sunny has a darker coloring closer to a German Shepard in appearance.  She was very thin, not being starved, but well below her proper weight.  approx. 24” high and weight approx. 45 lbs

Taking her outside periodically was trying as she had been living in crates or cages most all of her life.  She did not know that going outside was to take care of her business.  She was doing it in the crates with no knowledge of anything different or in leaving her crate headed outdoors doing it before they could get out the door.  We’d walk for long periods outside and as soon as we came back inside….

The new excitement of having someone to pay attention to her, a little more food in her bowl, regular walks and time outside and the adjustment to her new environment, hopefully have given her a new outlook.  She is doing well.  Sunny and her companion Foxy are both very playful together and want desperately to play with our dogs and cats who are still a little fearful of displacement with the new ones showing up.

Both Sunny and Foxy have been exposed to cattle and horses and a miniature donkey.  They just sit and stare at them.  Our youngest calf entertains them and tries to play.  The girls run around and bark at her and have gotten nose to nose.

During the first week, we set them up in our front yard on a 40 foot lead attached to a run between two large trees in our front yard.  Regular untangling sessions required our time as they romped all over their new territory.  There wasn’t a grub or earthworm safe anymore in the front yard, as the soil has been thoroughly aerated.   We’ve been preparing a fenced area in the back yard and recently moved them to the back on separate leads that have enough overlap to allow them to play with minimal tangling.  There are moles in the ground that Foxy has discovered, so the yard has begun to look like a mine field.  The other day we had a fair amount of rain which filled up one of her larger holes.  After the rain, we let them out on their leads and watched as Foxy proceeded to play like a small child in the mud puddle it created.  She was covered in mud literally up to her eyes.  When she drinks water she put her whole nose into the water pail and blows bubbles through her nose while drinking.

More about Sunny

Good with Dogs

The adoption fee includes vaccinations, Bordetella, de-worming, rabies, spay/neuter and microchip. There is a an additional $12.99 fee for Home Again for a lifetime registration of the microchip.

Puppies cannot be adopted outside of the Houston area until they are spay/neutered after they are 4 months old.

It is against the law in the State of Texas for a rescue not to be sterilized so we have to make sure it gets completed and that we have record of it.

NOTE: In our bios, we provide information based on our volunteer's experience with a particular dog; such as temperament, training, and ability to get along with others.

AARF is a 501(c)3 Non Profit, all breed, no kill organization. Our group is always in need of donations in order to continue to give the needed medical care to our rescues. Adoption fees do not begin to cover all of the medical costs. Any donation , no matter how small is a big help and is greatly appreciated. Please help us to continue to help them. Thank you.
