We're excited to announce that Ivy will be meeting a potential FUREVER FAMILY this weekend.  If she gets along well with her the pup who would be her fur sister, she might just have a home!  That being said, there's never a way to know for certain so do please fill out an adoption application if you'd like to meet her too.  She's an amazing dog!

Ivy is a bouncy red & white Terrier mix who (minus the curled tail) looks exactly like a big Basenji.  She is full of energy and smart as a whip. She has gorgeous green eyes that will melt your heart, and big, glorious ears you won’t be able to keep your hands off of and is the very best cuddler ever!

Ivy is the only foster we've ever had who doesn't seem to need to be either crated or under our undivided attention to keep out of trouble.  She's never had an accident in our home and hasn't destroyed anything besides dog toys.  She could probably be trusted without a crate but it's not something we've tested.  She understands sit, leave it, go to your bed, and walks beautifully at a loose heel.

She plays rough and hard with her foster brother and is totally gentle and patient with her tiny, cranky, senior foster sister.  We've had no issues with feeding times (she does eat fast!) but she does exhibit some resource guarding with certain toys.  It's been an easy problem to solve in our household by either having multiples of the 'favorites' and/or picking them up and putting them away.

If I could pick the perfect family for Ivy they would be active, have another dog and/or dogs who like to play, and kid(s) old enough to know what not to do to a dog like pull her ears, etc., but still young enough to enjoy growing up with her. She is snuggly & funny & full of energy & you will be doing yourself a disservice if you don’t give her a 2nd look.

As a side note: Ivy would not do well shut in a crate for long periods of time, so if that is how she would need to be housed while you’re away from home, she isn’t the dog for you. She also wouldn’t do well as the only dog, since she definitely prefers company.

Ivy has been recently cat tested on a stayover with an aggressive cat and was found to be submissive to the cat.

Please contact  app@aarfhouston.org  for more information about this dog. You can apply online by clicking on Application . Once your application is approved, we will schedule a meet and greet at one of our adoption events. Thank you for considering a rescue!

Special Needs: She was recently diagnosed with heartworms but it was a low positive. She should test negative in a couple months is not a big problem. She's on medications to fix this problem.

The adoption fee includes vaccinations, Bordetella, de-worming, rabies, spay/neuter and microchip. There is a an additional $12.99 fee for Home Again for a lifetime registration of the microchip.

Puppies cannot be adopted outside of the Houston area until they are spay/neutered after they are 4 months old.

It is against the law in the State of Texas for a rescue not to be sterilized so we have to make sure it gets completed and that we have record of it.

NOTE: In our bios, we provide information based on our volunteer's experience with a particular dog; such as temperament, training, and ability to get along with others.

AARF is a 501(c)3 Non Profit, all breed, no kill organization. Our group is always in need of donations in order to continue to give the needed medical care to our rescues. Adoption fees do not begin to cover all of the medical costs. Any donation , no matter how small is a big help and is greatly appreciated. Please help us to continue to help them. Thank you.
