Skip is a great dog.  Very loving and tender.  When he walks with you, on a leash or not, he looks back at you most of the time because he is happy to be with you..as if he's looking for approval (see the video).

He loves to be petted, espeically on his face and close to his ears.  When he gets really emotional, he puts his paws on your shoulders like he's coming in for a hug.

When playing, he likes to nibble or nip at your hands, but is really gentle.  Don't be afraid of that, though.  Labs are notorious for needing to have "soft mouths" in order to not destroy birds on a hunt.  That's what I mean.  When I say "nip," it's like when he pulls on the bottom of your pants leg b/c he wants to play...or plays tug of war with the leash b/c he wants to walk.  He likes the water, too, or at least to walk in it.

I am not sure if he was a hunting dog before, or if it just in his DNA.  He'll "tree" squirrels and then bark to let you know.  He has a bunch of fun, althought they might not think it's very fun!

He has been okay with cats.

He is house trained and crate trained.

He was adopted out back in June by an 80 year old woman. She got really ill (tooth infection caused by shotty dental work that was spreading to her brain) and took a turn for the worst. It was Skip who alerted her daughter-in-law to let her know the woman was slipping into a coma...so they called 911. He saved her life.  She, however, was too weak to care for him, so she returned him to me.  :(.  When he was at her house he was good with her two cats.  One cat was indifferent to Skip and that was GREAT.  The other cat ran to hide, but Skip didn't feel the need to hunt it down. (So...he's two for two).

Please contact Vicky at  info@aarfhouston.org  for more information about this dog or to schedule a meet and greet.
You can apply online by clicking on Application . Once your application is approved, we will schedule a meet and greet at one of our adoption events. Thank you for considering a rescue!

More about Skip

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids, Good with Adults, Does not require a yard

The adoption fee includes vaccinations, Bordetella, de-worming, rabies, spay/neuter and microchip. There is a an additional $12.99 fee for Home Again for a lifetime registration of the microchip.

Puppies cannot be adopted outside of the Houston area until they are spay/neutered after they are 4 months old.

It is against the law in the State of Texas for a rescue not to be sterilized so we have to make sure it gets completed and that we have record of it.

NOTE: In our bios, we provide information based on our volunteer's experience with a particular dog; such as temperament, training, and ability to get along with others.

AARF is a 501(c)3 Non Profit, all breed, no kill organization. Our group is always in need of donations in order to continue to give the needed medical care to our rescues. Adoption fees do not begin to cover all of the medical costs. Any donation , no matter how small is a big help and is greatly appreciated. Please help us to continue to help them. Thank you.
