Shelby is healthy, very energetic, strong and wants to be close to people. She likes to fetch and run. Shelby can climb over a standard cyclone fence, so she will need a high fence.

She is friendly with other dogs, but does not like other dogs near her food bowl. She does not mind a person taking her food bowl when she eats. Shelby does like to jump up on you in greeting or when she is excited. We are working on that.

Shelby has just completed training with Ms. Hope at the Copperfield Petco. She is very smart and only needed to be taught a command once. She learns very quickly!

Because she is smart, she can also get bored, so she will need a person who likes to play with her and challenge her. She would be a great companion for someone who likes to bike, jog, walk, or is in any other way active. I think Shelby would enjoy an obstacle / agility course. She is friendly with other dogs and eager to meet them.

It would be great if her new buddy would also take the training course at Petco so they can learn all the cool voice and hand commands Shelby has learned and so she will not be confused.

Shelby is walking on a leash using a Gentle Leader. She is doing very well.  She has a sweet personality. She likes kids. Shelby did not jump on my 8 year old niece when she was outside playing with her. Shelby followed her around and was happy for the pets and hugs. She also rides well in a car and is well behaved.

Shelby is crate-trained and house-broken. She is going to be a wonderful best friend to her lucky owner!

It is against the law in the State of Texas for a rescue not to be sterilized so we have to make sure it gets completed and that we have record of it.

NOTE: In our bios, we provide information based on our volunteer's experience with a particular dog; such as temperament, training, and ability to get along with others.

AARF is a 501(c)3 Non Profit, all breed, no kill organization. Our group is always in need of donations in order to continue to give the needed medical care to our rescues. Adoption fees do not begin to cover all of the medical costs. Any donation , no matter how small is a big help and is greatly appreciated. Please help us to continue to help them. Thank you.
