Scruffy was tagging along w/ neighbor dog,(Sweet Pea). He wouldn't come anywhere near me at that time. Then one day Sweet Pea comes running over to me and Scruffy decided to check me out. Since then they both started to come see me a few times a day and camp out in my lawn. Both were thin so I started to feed them. They where like 2 peas in a pod. She got pregnant and Scruffy would camp outside her fence when she had the puppies and just wait for her to come see him. He's a very loyal dog. As time pasted Scruffy got to trust me more. There would be nights when he would bark outside my window.
Then on the 4th of Sept. I was mowing the lawn and noticed he was walking funny. His back leg was swollen and had a good size gash on it. Poor baby couldn't even lay down. It got him in to the vet and got him on some meds and then took him back for xrays and followed up w/ surgery.
Since his surgery I have seen him start to be a lot more trusting w/ me. Things like climb in my lap and wanting to play. He is happy, happy, happy! You can see it! He really is a sweet dog, very loyal and loving. He has come a long way. In the beginning he would back away from my two kids (Ages 15 and 18). He did not trust them. I found out why when I talked to the family he came from. The teenage boy told me that "Ricky" did not like him, so if he was going to be afraid of him, he would give him a reason, by throwing things at him. My kids are working with him to try to get him to be comfortable with them. It's getting a lot better.
Scruffy was an unwanted dog and was treated as something to be easily deposed of. He has such a great personality that who ever gets this dog will be blessed w/ a best friend. Scruffy needs companionship w/ both human and another dog. He has great attachment to Sweet Pea and in watching his behavior it would be best that he have two buddies in his life, human and dog.
