Brando's story is an amazing one...and he's only a little over a year old!  He has managed to stay alive since arriving February 4th at the Kansas City, Missouri, animal shelter.  If you know anything about an "animal shelter,"  most dogs don't last very long!

Here's the amazing part:  He was rescued from a dog fighting ring where he was to be a bait dog.  A BAIT DOG!!!He was being transported to a remote location in outside rural KC.  The truck he was riding on hit another vehicle. In his crate, he fell off the truck onto the road at 70 mph. The truck kept going, leaving him there to die. Luckily, he was not injured. (The truck was later pulled over at a toll booth and the driver was arrested for a hit-and-run offense).  Luckily, Brando never made it to the dog fighting ring where he would have suffered a horrible death as a bait dog.  Instead, he went to KC AC where a wonderful group of people did their best to keep him alive...until we at Aarf Houston were able to get a hold of him!

Brando is a very loving dog.  He loves to play and loves humans.  When it comes to other dogs, he is "dog selective" because of fear.  At my house, for example, he gets along with my 2 Shih Tzus, and he got along with my former foster Clover, who is an American Bulldog/Pit mix (Clover has been adopted).  However, he does not get along with the dog that lives across the fence from us because he is afraid of him!

He has only met one cat that I have seen.  He tried to nip at it and lick it.  The cat didn't like it very much.

Brando walks very well on a leash.  He is house and crate trained & would probably do really well on a schedule or doggie door.

He has not shown any signs of being treat aggressive.  I have given both he, and his former Rescue-mate Clover, who has been adopted, treats at the same time.

I have an extra large crate and, when given a choice, Brando & Clover showed the desire to sleep together in the crate vs. sleeping in separate ones.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids, Good with Adults, Requires a yard

The adoption fee includes vaccinations, Bordetella, de-worming, rabies, spay/neuter and microchip. There is a an additional $12.99 fee for Home Again for a lifetime registration of the microchip.

Puppies cannot be adopted outside of the Houston area until they are spay/neutered after they are 4 months old.

It is against the law in the State of Texas for a rescue not to be sterilized so we have to make sure it gets completed and that we have record of it.

NOTE: In our bios, we provide information based on our volunteer's experience with a particular dog; such as temperament, training, and ability to get along with others.

AARF is a 501(c)3 Non Profit, all breed, no kill organization. Our group is always in need of donations in order to continue to give the needed medical care to our rescues. Adoption fees do not begin to cover all of the medical costs. Any donation , no matter how small is a big help and is greatly appreciated. Please help us to continue to help them. Thank you.
